Illustrations for pitch decks: how founders use them well

Investors see thousands of decks. A consistent visual style will not save a weak story, but it makes a good story easier to follow and remember.

Short answer: use illustrations on the slides where the idea is abstract (problem, solution, how it works, vision) and keep them in one style and one accent colour across the deck. Use real screenshots for the product slide and real charts for traction. Export illustrations as SVG or high-resolution PNG so they stay sharp on a big screen.

Keep the deck consistent

  • One illustration style for the whole deck.
  • One accent colour that matches your brand, used for the important part of each illustration.
  • The same size and position for illustrations on similar slides.
  • Plenty of white space: one idea per slide.

How to add them in your deck tool

  • Google Slides, Keynote, PowerPoint: download PNG at 2000 pixels (or SVG where supported) and insert.
  • Figma or Pitch: copy the SVG code and paste it onto the canvas; it becomes editable vectors.
  • AI deck tools: paste the copied prompt and ask for one illustration on the problem, solution and each how-it-works slide.

the solution slide and one for each "how it works" step. Same style and size

Questions

Should a pitch deck have illustrations?

Use them for abstract slides such as problem, solution, how it works and vision. Use real screenshots and charts for product and traction.

What file format is best for slides?

SVG where the tool supports it, otherwise PNG at 2000 pixels so illustrations stay sharp on large screens.

Can I use library illustrations in an investor deck?

Yes. Commercial use, including decks for your own company, is covered on every paid Liniqo plan, and the free illustrations can be used too.
